The geography and geographical location of Gomstapur upazila has played a role in shaping the language and culture of the people of this upazila. It is located in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh and is surrounded by the Indian state of Tripura, Chapainawabganj and other upazilas of Rajshahi division. Here the main features of the language are the same as in other upazilas of Bangladesh, yet some variation can be found. For example, in spoken language, great vowel sounds are largely absent, that is, there is a tendency for language simplification.
A review of the history of this area shows that the civilization of Gomstapur is very ancient. There are also small ethnic groups living in the area who have their own language and culture.
